My Littlest One

I knew on the day you were born,
That you were a very special one;
Such an innocent dear sweet little boy,
Who was going to bring us all joy.

In your cherubic face I could see,
Something wasn’t quite meant to be;
In those clear eyes there shone,
A message meant for me alone.

Treasured memories of me and you,
Cut too early and definitely too few;
We played together as time went by,
While others would watch you and I.

Soon God will come and take your hand,
And in His mighty presence you will stand;
Til then I'll wait for the time to come,
When once again I'll be with my littlest one.
